From 2D plans to 3D modelling in all aspects, it is simply an amazing tool. As well as its extreme compatibility with other software not only from the Autodesk family, makes it one of the best programs for architecture and other areas. Although it is \”easy\” to use, it can take you a lot of time to get used to it, it is one of the programmes that sometimes I still have to look for tutorials on how to use its tools even if I have been using it for all the years of my degree and part of my working life.

Once you understand the basics it becomes common to say that it is \”easy\” to use, but it does take a great deal of time and patience not to get lost or make common mistakes that may or may not be fixable. The best guarantee that the work will be executed on time without design mistakes. It enabled us to discover the final product more clearly before starting implementation, which reduced the overlap of systems in general, and thus saved a lot of time, effort and money that were previously wasted as a result of design errors and repeat business, and this also contributed to raising the quality of work significantly.

Revit is the best application for creating 3D models and for producing VR ready presentations. For designers, being able to draw smoothly and being able to see a temporary dimension around an object is very useful. BIM capabilities provided by Revit allow both designers and customers to see the final product before it is built, and its multiple features, make us rely on it in the field of construction in particular, and make it a basis for data at all stages of design and implementation, as it enables us to easily coordinate our services with other deals as well as study the implications provides service guidance on the structure and architectural considerations that must be made with our mechanical and plumbing designs.

It is an ideal solution to prevent interference between systems and save time and effort. The main problem lies in the prices of licenses, which makes them limited in use and is only owned by large companies. Also, the ideal use requires extensive training to master the skills. Overall it is an irreplaceable component of my daily job but can sometimes be a pain to figure out a workaround in order to model what I have designed in another program.

The ability to link models through bim and work on a central model with a team, is revolutionary for our industry. Of course, being able to draw and model at the same time is also so important in delivering a project on time and being able to document changes after construction is also a must. I am always surprised when I meet people who are still working with cad but I suppose on a small project revit may not make sense.

The ability to design curves and angles, and model other complicated features, really needs to be vastly improved. Things like a skylight or a monumental stair and railing should not be so difficult to model and draw when they are so easy to do so in a dozen other programs.

I will recommend to use Revit to architectural and engineering firms. This software is easy to use, specially if you come from the AutoCAD background.

I like the fact that I am working tri-dimensionally and see esthetics of my projects almost immediately. Also, Revit has a huge library with parametric components that I can access. Another cool thing is that Revit can be use to measure the environmental impact of my models if my clients are interested. In order to create nice quality renderings, I need to use other software s in combination with Revit because using Revit by itself will give me clunky images with a \”computer\” look, that as an project manager, I don\’t think my clients will enjoy.

Because for architects, working tri-dimensional is much better. Give you a perception of what you are designing. I have been using Revit since last 3 years for modeling MEP services, producing shop drawings and quality take off. I use Revit to create a model which is used for clash coordination review in Navisworks. Revit saves lots of time in compare with other software as has many time saving and automation features. It is the best drafting and 3D modeling software that I have used so far which have great features.

The best part is that it is a multi user worksharing software by the help of which your whole team can work on a single project. You just need to save the file as central file. You can make a template and save it and use it anytime when your start a protect so that you not need to set the project standards like text font, leaders, dimensions style, layout etc each time.

Just you can open the template and start working. Last but not the list, revit allows you to create different parameter for the object that helps to add necessary information of the object. The information provided can be extracted by help of scheduling. I will highly recommend to start practicing this software as it is going to be the future of AEC industry.

The only cons I have got about Revit is the it uses a lot of memory to run smoothly. Time used: Less than 12 months. If you\’re an aspiring firm who\’s growing and taking on more than they have in the past, this is a great software to look into. Be warned, it will be a higher initial investment, since you will likely want to add-on premade template packages alongside taking time to learn the software.

However, once everyone has had time to get acquainted and workflow is setup, this is an amazing tool that can have your productivity soring. While being a smaller firm, we understand we could make do with software such as Sketchup since it\’s relatively cheaper and can absolutely get the job done.

However, in our office\’s experience, the second you have more than 2 people in your office with more and more projects on your plate the more of a time and money sink it becomes having to keep track of coordinating all of your models. Revit, especially with BIM cloud storage, is an amazing asset to have when it comes to collaboration and sheet creation. We also love to use Enscape with Revit to produce our marketing material.

There is absolutely a learning curve that goes into taking on this program. Not only will you need time to get accustomed to speaking Revit\’s language and recognize its quirks, but you\’ll likely want to invest into premade templates and families since the defaults available on Revit aren\’t quite at a presentation standard. Also, there\’s an example of the the language thing I mentioned; families can be anything from doors, fixtures, casework, etc. Beyond the initial setup, there\’s still aspects of the UI that aren\’t exactly intuitive, but there have been improvements made over the years but it\’s still far from perfect.

Considering the compatibility with other Autodesk applications and helpful features such as 2D and 3D drawing, BIM modeling, presentation tools this is a great application to use.

But it comes with a larger price tag. Can be used for many purposes and currently, this is the industry standard for designing. Designing complex structures will be harder but considering advantages and disadvantages this is a good application to use. Another great solution from Autodesk. In Revit, we have the ability to draw, design, and model structures depending on our needs.

With tools to draw in 2D and easily model it into 3D, Revit is the solution architectures and civil engineers have been looking for. And especially with modeling and presentation tools Revit is the whole package. And with enhanced support from other Autodesk applications, Revit seems like the industry-standard design software.

The main disadvantage is the higher price value for Revit. So middle and startup companies have to think twice before purchasing Revit. Also somewhat harder to create complex models. And for a beginner, this would be harder to learn and use. Revit had more users therefore tutorials and increased support. Also, Revit faster and more user friendly.

A worksheet is not available to select once you select the file and to make matters worse, every attempt to import a schedule from Excel to Revit results in the programming crashing. I\’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the program, restarted my computer and end up with the same result.

The one star is because only at the end of the documentation it says \”no type parameters\”. Please mention this in the description of the app! Not just the benefits but also the limitations ;. Thanks for great tool, but when I tried to export the general material summary, It always itemize every individual object, not the grand total of each type of item. I\’m using Revit MEP. This tool works good for the standard project parameters. But when I have shared parameters system families in my project and add them to my schedule the excel cells keep blanc after exporting. Maybe something to fix to complete this great tool. When attempting to import an Excel spreadsheet, l can locate and select a spreadsheet, but once selected, l cannot select any sheets held within that spreadsheet for import purposes.

Nothing appears. Any solution? From Excel, you will be able to modify the data you want Except the read-only and type parameters and you can then import it back in Revit to visualize your changes.

Hope this helps. This app does not import excel files. I am surprised other users are satisfied with it. I keep getting the message to select the worksheets I wish to import from the excel document but it does not detect any of the worksheets in the excel document.

This would be an otherwise useful tool if that can work. Simple to use, robust. Does lockup protect and hides Row 1 and Column A of the exported Excel file, which some might find confusing. Doesn\’t export material schedule Quantity Take-Offs which is a pity, but hey, its free!

This tool is awesome and free!! But It can\’t export \”calculated value\” in schedule. If some schedule contains a calculated value, it can\’t export to excel and stops working. While it looks good it randomly changes the Family Type of some data devices when the Mark is changed in Excel and then imported back into Revit I\’m working with hundreds of elements so maybe you need to test with a larger amount of elements as it doesn\’t do this with a small number of elements. This will significantly reduce the amount of time needed for teledata labeling.

After a trial on a small schedule, it seems to work as advertised. I really wish we would have had this 3 years ago. Import does not work as instructed. Cannot import Excel Sheet after navigating to it and populating the search bar. The addin is not meant to import man-made Excel sheets. It is mandatory to use the export feature first as mentioned in the app description. Without those GUIDs, the import won\’t work.

Contrary to what the developers reply has been in previous posts with the stock answer. Importing a man-made Excel file will not work as Revit will only answer to a specific structure of data. Once the file has been exported, you can only modify existing data in the fields generated during the export. I have exported, with the BIMone app, from a project to globally change and add a prefix to my project parameters.

That worked great, I then changed , in excel, the field i needed and saved. On import I got the same problem as others before, after picking the original amended exported excel file i get the error \”Please select a worksheet to import\” Any feed back??? When i exported, only the project parameters can be edited in excel and transported back again.

But the shared parameters are greyed out to show it can\’t be edited. When I add the shared parameters as part of the project parameters, they can now be edited. The problem with this is that on the properties of all the objects, you now have project parameters on all of them. How can I solve this problem. I have tried it and guess it misses out many information.

I created shared parameters. Just did a quick check on capabilities – does exactly what i want! Import is also slick like that. Works seamlessly! When importing into Revit it asks for you to select a worksheet s but does not give anyway of doing so. Hi, I wonder if this tool can also export Calculated Value Parameter and the table sorting just exactly like what we have setup in Revit. But still a very good tool. Hi Mohd, Unfortunately our addin has a limitation with calculated values. We\’ll consider this problem for a future update. As for the sorting, this has to be adjusted within the Excel file itself using the built-in features.
