IMO, it is not a finished product. Everything else is set as per Damien software when downloaded originally. Which is more than sufficient imo. Адрес Maybe it is different sounding for Windows? EDIT But the most important is the audirvana upsampling settings free production of the album. When you upsample in Audirvana, you have to приведенная ссылка what you are doing with the sliders… With the Lumin d1 you mean not upsampling, let it play the files like they are? Try HQPlayer alone, without Roon.

But to know what the controls do would be a great help, thank you. Screen Shot at 2. Damien once told me the software comes pre-configured with the recommended best settings. That being said, it would be nice to know some of the cause and effect of changing these settings given the understandable uniqueness of each of our systems and their strengths and weaknesses and how these might be better adjusted within these program settings.

Even with a Ph. SoX is just an open source tool for digital audio signal processing. For example, upsampling can be done in a number of ways, including linear quadratic or parabolic interpolation. There are also more sophisticated methods of upsampling that might be used. I have no idea which method or methods SoX uses. Upsampling increases the sample rate of the data stream. The advantage of upsampling is that it increases the Nyquist frequency. The drawback is that it introduces a degree of quantization error, which can result in distortion.

The Nyquist frequency is the maximum hypothetical frequency of the audio signal that can be encoded at a given sample rate. Digital filters can be designed to mimic an ideal frequency response curve, which is flat right up to the Nyquist frequency, and zero above it.

The only limitation on that is the length of the filter, but longer filters result in a lag between the input and output signals, and require more processing power. Aliasing refers to the phenomenon in which sampled signals with frequency components greater than the nyquist frequency may sneak through as the difference between the actual frequency and the Nyquist frequency. This is the same thing as a beat frequency in AM radio.

Ideally, aliasing can be prevented by filtering out such frequencies before the audio is sampled. Antialiasing is a strategy to detect and filter out aliased signal components, but there is the potential to reject some of the signal too.

Phase refers to the variation in phase across the bandwidth of the filter. Ideally, the phase should be completely linear. This helps eliminate aliasing. In practice I have found I care very little about this setting. I have it on max at the moment. Many people, including me formerly, have this set rather low.

However, I have linear phase speakers Vandersteen , so I use linear phase because I think it sounds better with them. Experiment with this setting and see what you think. Thanks Steve and Jud. Of course this is as it applies to my room and system. Thanks again. The simple quality selection described above provides settings that satisfy the needs of the vast majority of resampling tasks. Note that frequency of any such artefacts is related to the smaller of the original and new sampling rates but that if this is at least Minimum, intermediate, or linear phase response is selected using the -M, -I, or -L option; a custom phase response can be created with the -p option.

The -b option allows the band- width to be set to any value in the range For example, with Hopefully that helps… But it kind of depends on the type of music you are listening to and your ears preferences e. I am resolving details I have not heard before in music I know well. Thanks for your input. Were your trials at the native sampling rate of the music file or upsampled? I am mostly listening to SoX upsampled They all allow you to appreciate the song in a slightly different way.

I have a Denafrips Ares ll as well. I agree about the Ares. Plenty to experiment with! It does not cost a ton and you can prove out whether you can hear a difference or not. There are other options but they tend to go up in price pretty quickly.

I like the convenience of the iFi iPurifier3 and I can hear a difference – especially on DACs that do not handle jitter well. Laptops produce a lot of RFI so you should be able to hear some noise reduction from a device like this straight away. What a great bunch of posts; thanks for the ideas. Phase I have a reasonably good set-up and these changes have improved my experience. The bass seems more enhanced and detailed, and the slight sibilance I was hearing has disappeared.

Since we have great recommendations in this thread, what are your thoughts on DSD up sampling in conjunction with these settings? Ma ho notato che a volte in qualche brano la riproduzione si interrompe verso la fine del brano, come mai?

Devo cambiare qualche impostazione? Ho 4 gb di ram nel mio pc, insufficienti? This issue with stopping before the end of the song is a known issue with some DACs. The only workaround at the moment is to disable the upsampling. How much memory you need depends on what is the max sampling frequency of your DAC. More is for sure better, 4GB is on the low side.

This is a great question, especially in regard to the SoX filter settings. Yes, it would be good to know and understand without having an audio engineering degree.

TLDR: From the man page for sox. Increasing levels of resampling quality come at the expense of increasing amounts of time to process the audio. The \’quick\’ algorithm uses cubic interpolation; all others use band-limited interpolation.

By default, all algorithms have a \’linear\’ phase response; for \’medium\’, \’high\’ and \’very high\’, the phase response is configurable see below. The rate effect is invoked automatically if SoX\’s -r option specifies a rate that is different to that of the input file s. Alternatively, if this effect is given explicitly, then SoX\’s -r option need not be given. For example, the following two commands are equivalent: sox input.

Then the documentation goes more into what we are interested in: Warning: technically detailed discussion follows. Premature track skipping 1. In witch way? More natural sound? More clarity on bass etc?

Quick question, does anyone know where I can find the original \’factory\” settings for the upsampling filters? Screen Shot at 9. What is the point of these options?

Assuming one has a decent dac to start with what improvements are claimed to be achievable by tweeking these knobs? Is it just up to us to try different settings and check for improvements or otherwise? Mine does up to X8 upsampling I think….

That is a complex subject and not easily answered. The processors in DACs tend to have not much horse power so generally use very simple and crude upsampling methods.

The processor in a computer like a pc or Mac is usually much more powerful and can use more sophisticated methods and filters. Others like to upsample and tinker with the different settings. It all boils down to taste and preference. Upsampling: in computer or in DAC??? Getting something for nothing — PS Audio.

Software Upsampling vs. Andy Thanks for this input. Yes I kind of guessed that it would all boil down to personal taste and I suppose it also depends on the quality of users hifi separates and whether they feel their sound needs some tweaking.

Cheers for posting the links. Perhaps there are no standard setting as every ear and every hifi equipment is different. But nevertheless: factory setting should be restorable as a software option; at least they should be document in the help files.

Bildschirmfoto um In Audirvana Studio 1. So the default settings there are not surprisingly the same as in 3. Thank you AndyLubke.

That is the same as I found, except for Filter Phase. DXD PCM is a series of completely independent binary coded samples representing actual numerical arithmetic values of signal level at the time of the sample. DSD is a modulated bit stream comprised of a population of clock bits whose density is proportional to signal level, and unlike PCM, DSD contains no numerical values. Thank you for the reading tips Agoldnear.

So I know what to do this evening. I am just seeking a better understanding. Neither my equipment nor my ears most probably allow to hear any differences. Thank you for your additional reading links Agoldnear. DoP 1. These are my best subjective settings used at the moment. I can not guarantee you will think the same – most probabily not. Hello all Quick question, does anyone know where I can find the original \’factory\” settings for the upsampling filters?

Amazing thank you. This is greatly appreciated. I have never changed the SoX parameters in Audirvana 3. With PCM, think of movie film made of individual stand alone frames, each containing a separate picture or signal value in a sequence of separate pictures. With DSD, think of a picket fence with more or less pickets present, proportional to the original signal level.

Ears are a factor by the way that is often neglected in reviews or tests! Try with: DoP 1.

So your saying, let the Lumin do the upscaling? I use the upsample all my files to DSD before with some Izotope Settings then, with sliders settings that people says were good… but it is all different from house to house, system to system… so you have to adjust that yourself and compare to really see a difference?

Please clarify or am I missing something? If comparing bit perfect, direct playback algorithms between 3. I did preface my personal opinion with two disclaimers. Everyone should try and come to their own conclusion. There are others who are reporting the same sound signature. After all these reports I have zero interests to even try Studio. This one month trial is nothing more than beta testing.

We must be twins! I just installed Audirvana Friday to use my Mac Mini as my server and player. I have struggled to find software that does this and allows me to use my iPhone as a remote. Does anyone have experience or knowledge of this issue?

Am I misunderstanding that? The problem is with your DSD player. As to your other post, I clearly see DoP in the display on the UD and it also shows the correct sampling rate. I would contact Teac for advice. If you stream Qobuz you want to go to custom filters and you can choose not up sample or to up- sample.

Sound is subjective. Listen and decide for yourself. One tip: If you are upsampling to PCM powers of two are the best easiest for the upsample algorithm. If you want to upsample to DSD it does not matter much what sampling frequency you choose the higher, the more taxing on the cpu.
